Tories to Axe Pegasus School Buses5.39.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 29th Sep 2009
Less than a year since they took the decision to maintain the service until 2011 the Tory administration at County Hall has decided to axe the very popular Pegasus buses from the end of the current school year. The decision to discontinue the service has been made without consultation with parents or the schools. County Councillor David Goodwin, Liberal Democrat spokesman for Transport said: "At last week's Transport Select Committee meeting I argued for an option to continue the service until at least 2013, but it has not even been considered. My intention is to call-in this decision because it has been taken hastily, with absolute disregard to the opinions and concerns of the schools and the local community." He added: "Last year, parents made their decisions about choosing schools for their children with the confidence that the County Council's decisions were trustworthy. It is now clear that the Conservative administration at County Hall was happy to promise anything before the election to renege on their promises as soon as the election was over."
