Ashley won the by-election in Walton South & Oatlands in May 2023. He sits on the Children's, Families, Life-Long Learning & Culture select committee.

Ashley is also a councillor on Elmbridge Borough Council, representing the residents of Weybridge Riverside since 2019, and is the Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services.
