Government funding for Surrey education

5 Aug 2013

The Coalition Government has announced funding for an extra 2310 school places in Surrey.

Cllr Stella Lallement, the Liberal Democrat Education Spokesperson on Surrey County Council said: "I welcome this funding for extra school places in Surrey. This is much needed, as some parts of the County have insufficient places to meet need.

"It is important for children to be able to attend their local school instead of travelling some distance outside of their local community. This funding should help to tackle the problem."

Cllr Lallement added: "Surrey schools will be receiving more funding to give disadvantaged pupils more support, which increases from £900 to £1300 per pupil. About 11,600 pupils in Surrey are currently receiving support from the Pupil Premium. The Liberal Democrats as part of the Coalition Government are seeking a fairer society so that everyone has the opportunity to get on life.

"The Pupil Premium money is giving practical support to those children who need it most."
