Magna Carta decision a blank cheque

29 Jul 2013

Cllr John Orrick, the Liberal Democrat Opposition Spokesperson for Communities on Surrey County Council, has condemned the decision by Surrey's Conservative Cabinet today to support an £8.3 million Magna Carta celebration project "signing a blank cheque".

Cllr John Orrick said:

"What has been agreed by the Conservative Cabinet is a large amount of taxpayers' money based on a report with only a very vague outline of what is being planned and how it is being spent.

"I would have thought the Conservative administration would have learnt the lesson from the abandoned plans of the £5 million visitor centre that proposing spending large amounts of money on vague plans isn't acceptable."
